Summer Ideas for Kids

And a recap of All the latest…

Hi guys! Wow…has it been a busy month! Summer has officially begun for us (the kids’ last day was June 14) and it has been non-stop fun and crazy-busy ever since the first of June! Here’s a recap of what we’ve been up to lately, plus some fun summer ideas for kids–including free printables! (Whoop!)

Our unofficial start to the summer was with a camping trip to Mt Laguna with friends and family. It’s become an annual tradition to do a big group camping trip in the beginning of June, but since Covid, we’ve had to postpone the trip the last two years, so it was so a blast spending some quality time together again in the great outdoors!

Oh, and in the middle of the camping trip, there was the issue of taking a quick little detour to head back home Saturday morning for my youngest son Evan’s championship baseball game, no biggie. ???? And guess what?? THEY WON!!! It was so fun and super exciting!! We are so proud of their team for making it all the way! Way to go, Evan!????????

After that, it was all kinds of crazy end-of-the-year parties and activities, and then this happened:

My baby graduated from 5th grade and is now a middle-schooler! ???? Can’t believe how fast the time flies!! We are so proud of Josh and all that he has accomplished so far, and are excited and optimistic for what is to come. But still….can they just please stop growing up for a minute? #notready

Now we are into summer and both boys are at baseball camp, plus Josh is on the all-stars team getting ready for their tournament this weekend, so basically, the baseball never ends. ???? But after that, we are looking forward to spending some quality time together doing all the fun summer things.

Summer Ideas for Kids Printables

If your summer is a little less hectic than ours and you are looking for some ideas on what to do and how to stay sane, I’ve got two awesome printables to help you out. One is a fun summer bucket list to help kick-start your summer and keep you out of an idea rut, and the other is a daily checklist for kids to build some routine into their day and keep screen time to a minimum.

Summer bucket List

I love a bucket list because it is a fun way to get creative and put down some ideas on paper so you never run out of things to do. This one pretty much ticks all the boxes for what I would consider to be a pretty epic summer! I’m definitely looking forward to getting some down time soon and checking some of these off the list. To print out your own copy at home, click on the link below. I’ve also added a few blank spots so you can add to it!

And, if you live in San Diego, make sure to check out my post about free & cheap things to do with kids. There are a lot of ideas in the post that are also on my bucket list because they make for great summer activities!

Summertime Daily Checklist for Kids

Once the excitement of being out of school wears off, it’s hard to get into a daily routine if the kiddos aren’t going to camp or otherwise tied to some sort of schedule. As a parent, it can be hard not to fall into the trap of letting your kids have way too much screen time because (a) it’s easy entertainment and (b) the one thing that keeps them quiet. (No judging.) But as we all know, after too much screen time they start to mutate into rude, short-tempered little monsters and no one wants to deal with that!

So here’s a checklist I put together to help make sure that the kids don’t loll around in their pj’s all day eating granola bars and watching YouTube for 8 hours. ???? It’s nice because it’s not super rigid, but it’s a nice visual reminder to help to implement some sort of a routine into the day. You can print one out to keep in their room, or post it on the refrigerator so everyone is clear on the expectations for the day. Before they can enjoy screen time, there is a minimum that they need to do to get some exercise, use their brains, and be hygienic. Is that so hard to ask? I think not.
