You know how when you go to a home goods store and they have all those fantastic throw pillows for the holidays and you are reaaally tempted to buy them because they are so festive and cozy, but then you think “…Where the heck am I going to store them??” (Or are you the type to buy them and now you have five storage boxes of just pillows?) Either way, I have a solution that lets you have the best of both worlds: pillow covers! Now you can have allll the cute holiday pillows you want with minimal storage space.
Adding throw pillows to your home decor adds that extra layer of cozy-chic that makes it so festive and inviting. I love how one small change can totally transform the look of a room. But as much as I would love to have a dedicated storage closet for holiday pillows, the reality is that storage space is at a premium when it comes to holiday decorations.
Which is why pillow covers are so awesome, because they hardly take up any space at all! (You could even keep them in the linen closet if you want.) If you already have throw pillows on your couch, easy chair, or bed, etc. you can easily make or buy covers to go over them and change them out as often as you’d like. If you don’t already have throw pillows, you can buy the inserts (just one set), and then change out the covers throughout the year. Go crazy with all the different holiday/seasonal designs without all the bulk!

My Fall Pillow Covers
I shared my newest pillow covers in my Halloween decorating blog post, but before I bought these, I actually made my own using this tutorial. If you have a sewing machine, it’s a relatively easy process involving basic shapes and straight lines. Here’s a picture of the ones I made:
Cute, right? The nice thing about making your own is that you have more options when it comes to choosing colors and patterns, so you can really customize it to your liking. I think I’m going to keep using them for my fall/Thanksgiving decor since they are a little more muted and…because I can!
But, if the thought of diy-ing your own pillow covers gives you hives, no worries. You can totally just buy them on Amazon (yay!) and they are super affordable.

I just love this holiday decorating hack! Changing out the pillow covers are a fun, easy and inexpensive way to transform the look of your room. Are you a throw pillow fan too? Let me know if you decide to try making your own or which of these sets you might like to try. I’d love to hear it!
I did this exact thing last Christmas! One of the things I asked for were Christmas pillow covers that would fit my existing pillow inserts! Great hack 🙂
Yes! Love this…then you can just change them out whenever you want!
