Ok, so apparently I have an obsession with making holiday fruit skewers. But c’mon how cute (and tasty) do these look?? With so much candy floating around during Halloween, it’s nice to be able to offer healthy treats that are still fun to eat. Read on for the instructions on how to make these spooktacularly sweet Halloween fruit skewers!
Ingredients Needed:
- Bamboo skewers
- Cantaloupe (cut into pieces)
- Red grapes
- Blueberries
- Mini marshmallows
- Large marshmallows
- Halloween Peeps (optional)
- Black icing (for decorating large marshmallows)
How to Make Halloween Fruit Skewers:
1. Cut the cantaloupe into bite-size pieces.
2. Wash the remaining fruit and assemble the ingredients. (I haven’t included any quantities here, because it depends on the number of skewers you want to make. But just eyeball it and go with your best judgement. Typically, one pint of blueberries, one cantaloupe, one bag of grapes, and one bag each of the marshmallows should be enough.)
3. Grab a skewer and thread on a piece of cantoloupe, followed by 1 grape, 2 blueberries, and 1 mini marshmallow. Complete the pattern again and then add one more cantaloupe and one more grape.
4. Top it off with either a Halloween Peep or, make your own* with a large marshmallow.
*To decorate the large marshmallows, use the black icing to draw a ghost face (basically 3 circles) and then let it dry for a few seconds. You can do these as you go, or make a bunch all at once.
The Halloween Peeps are super cute, but unfortunately, they only come 3 to a package (they are bigger than traditional Peeps), so it makes it a bit more expensive if you are making a lot of these. Or, you can do what I did and intermix the Peeps with the homemade ones for a nice assortment. Boo-tiful!
For a fun display, I used a plastic cauldron with a flower frog in the bottom (or you can use a block of crafter’s foam) to hold the skewers in place. But even just set out on a nice plate or serving tray looks just as good!
