How to Create Your DIY Halloween Centerpiece
Supplies Needed:
- 9″ Craft pumpkin, any color (the orange one in the photo above has already been cut, but it had a stem originally)
- Glass jar (can be a leftover spaghetti sauce jar, ball jar, etc.)
- Pencil
- Sharp knife with serrated edge
- Halloween floral stems and picks (about 7-10, depending on size) *option to use a mix of real and faux stems
I got these super fun black and purple eyeball roses and glittery purple willow branch from Dollar Tree. I definitely recommend checking out your local dollar stores first for the best prices, but any craft store (like Michael’s) is sure to have a good selection as does Amazon.
Black, purple and darker red colors work nicely, but really, there are no rules with this, so feel free to be as creative as you want! (Maybe brighter greens, purples and oranges?) Just have fun with it!
Step 1: Cut a Hole in the Pumpkin
The first step is to cut out the top of your craft pumpkin to create an opening for the flowers to go into. Start by placing the jar upside down over the stem (top) of the pumpkin and trace around it with a pencil. Then, using your knife, cut around the circle and remove the top of the pumpkin.
Step 2: Insert Jar into Pumpkin
Now take the jar and place it inside the pumpkin so that the flowers and stems will be contained. If using only faux florals for this project, you may not even need the jar, but it does help hold them in place nicely. And, if you plan on adding real flowers at any point, you will need the jar for holding water.
Step 3: Add Your Floral Stems and Picks
Now you can start adding in your floral stems, leaves and other decorative picks (think eyeballs, spiders, bats, etc.) to give it that ghoulish appeal. Depending on the length, you may need to trim the stems a bit so that they fill out the arrangement and hide the opening.
Your Spooktacular Halloween Centerpiece
And we’re already done! This DIY Halloween centerpiece was such a fun and easy project. I found this table runner on Amazon and some cool black and purple spiders from Party City to complete the look. I love how it turned out! This would also be a fun craft to do together with the kids.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you may remember I did a similar centerpiece for Thanksgiving. (This is why I had the orange craft pumpkin already cut out.) So now, you can re-use the pumpkin next month for Thanksgiving simply by switching out the florals! It’s like two decorations in one! Don’t you just love that?
And lastly, meet the newest addition to our Halloween crew. The kids named him Jimmy. (Lol, don’t you just love the names kids come up with?) He was hanging out at the dining table for a while before moving to his post in the front yard. Too much fun!
Wishing you and yours a very fun and happy Halloween too!
With love,
So cute! Definitely going to try this!
Thanks! Let me know if you try it…it was really fun and easy to do!
